The policy of French High Commissioner Gabrielle Pew towards Syria 1939 – 1940
Abstract
Syria fell under the French mandate, and Syria suffered throughout the mandate period from an internal division in order to impose French control over it. On the other hand, it implemented its policies through the French High Representatives who followed Syria throughout the mandate period. The French High Representative became a source of implementing the demands of the French authorities and began to absorb the anger of the Syrian people and tear apart the unity of Syria.
Perhaps the High Commissioner Gabriel Pio is one of these French delegates who worked to implement that policy
