Investigating Iraqi EFL Learners’ Attitudes towards the Use of Authentic Materials as Cultural Mirrors
Abstract
The study investigates Iraqi EFL learners attitudes towards the use of authentic materials as cultural mirrors within academic settings. To this end, an experimental course entitled Language and Culture has been constructed throughout which authentic materials have been intensively utilized to enhance learners cultural awareness. The sample of the study is fifty fourth-year students who have been selected randomly from the Department of English/ College of Education for Humanities/ University of Mosul. Data were collected through the use of a feedback questionnaire that was administered at the end of the aforementioned course. Results revealed that students hold positive attitudes towards the use of authentic materials as cultural mirrors within Iraqi academic settings.
