The Central Public Library In Mosul: A Study of its Reality & Proposal for its Development
Abstract
The research aims to identify the reality of the services of the central public library in Mosul in terms of getting to know its group and the most important services provided in it , as well as getting to know its staff and the most important circumstances surrounding them and to get acquainted with the methods of work in it . The study followed the case study approach to the case study of the library , and in collecting data it was based on an interview with the director of the library workers to know the working conditions surrounding them to find out their problems and try to find solutions to address them and periodicals as well as some electronic resources from the internet . The study reached set of consolations the most important of which are : 1)The necessity to appoint a sufficient number of employees specialized in the field of office work especially those with higher degrees . 2)The weakness of the process of participating in seminars conferences ,training courses , and the holding of book fairs held in rest of the libraries The study came out with a set of proposal the most important of which was : 1)The necessity of forming committees with the help of specialists from outside the library that work in agreement with the library management for the purpose of setting a clear and written policy for selecting and providing the library to develop its collection . 2)The need for the library to rely in the indexing process on the Anglo American indexing rules as well as Deweys Decimal classification and lists of major Arab heading.
