Purification and exclusion of medical books Technical Institute in / Library Mosul
Abstract
Weeding is one of the basic way for developing and evaluating the collections of the library. It works to maintain viable and relevant library collections. Because of the needs of the library users change . Weeding is necessary to prevent a library collection from becoming obsolete . At the same time, it necessary because the library has a limited physical space for attractive and updated sources. The aim of the research is to make a suggestion for a weeding policy and apply this suggestion on medical source in the library of Technical Institute / Mosul . This was done by a survey method of book-book of medical collections of the library to show the physical condition, date of publication and the last date of borrowing for each book, then to seek the opinion of some specialists in medicine in the same institute. The aim results of the research were: Weeding (524) books, (title) percent 65.8% out of (795) books (title) surveyed published before 2004 . The most weeded books were related to "nursing" . The lowest weeded books were those related to medical appliances (equipment) . The researchers suggested that there should be a continual periodical survey done by the staff working in the library for of the shelves to weed out the dated medical resources .
