Abstract

Since the end of the sixteenth century, the Ottoman Empire neglected the administration of some of its subordinate states due to its preoccupation with its foreign wars on the western and eastern fronts, This was an important factor in the spread of many types of irregular soldiers in some of their states, especially in the Levant, The Sgban was one of the most important mercenary soldiers that helped spread chaos and political and security instability and encouraged ambitious rulers and princes to rebel against the Ottoman Empire, Especially they were part of the Jalaliyah rebellion that swept through Anatolia since 1595 AD and which extended to the northern regions of the Levant, such as the state of Aleppo, and the south, such as Mount Lebanon, Although the Sgban was a factor in the success of some rebels against the Ottoman authority in these areas, he was a factor in their failure because they did not have the popular base that would enable them to continue and success.
