Abstract

. :: .: . .The use of image is one of the most important styles in Arabic poetry. It is one of its most prominent elements needed for its content of meaning and analysis and representation of beauty of expression. It is also important for purposeful rhetoric and its ability to influence the listener. Our present research is not confined to the image and its rhetorical limitations are not only represented by simile, metaphor and metonymy but it exceeds that to the images that are free of metaphor and form a real use of expressions and imply a rich imagination. We shall try in this work to study and contrast models of images of the two Umayyad poets,Gareer and AL-Farazdaq not only as different poets but also as two poets living in the same environment and belong to the same tribe. The mention of each poet is confined to the other. Our purpose is to investigate and find the similarities and differences in their poetry. The research is divided into two sections:1-The rhetorical image which includes simile, metaphor and metonymy2-Non-metaphorical image which includes the free image and the poetic language depending on various references some of them are new, others are old. We exerted all efforts to deal with all aspects of the subject in order to obtain clear results.
