The Problem of Narrator and Techniques of Narrative Construction: A Study of Selected Arab novels.
Abstract
This paper approaches the subject of narrator through examining a number of Arabic novels that belong to modernist and post-modernist period. It also approaches the methods of construction and formal techniques based on net of artistic elements. Since these novels attempt to innovate the novel's expressive , artistic and aesthetic style, they deal with the means of expression and elements of formation according to a new vision that contributes to build narrative space, in which the fictional setting dominates a large part of narrative movement in the novel. The spatial performance is reflected in characters, events, times, and all elements of the composition without exception.
A group of modern Arabic novels were selected that can answer the questions and aspirations of the research argument, namel: Naguib Mahfouz's The Thief And the Dogs, Aamil Sukkal's Al-Asayta by, Zain Abdul Hadi's The War of Evil, Al-Jamal Boutayeb's The Womens Market or P.O. Box: 26 and Intisar. Abdel Moneim's Jokat: Tales of the Red House). A critical reading of these novels is done based on narrators approach and nature of artistic structure and aesthetics of textual expression.
