Education during the Ottomans Period
Abstract
. . . Mosul had not ever received a notable interest from the Ottomans like other Iraqi cities . No changes had taken place in the realm of education and this may have been due to the problems which the Ottomans faced as a result of neglegance Baghdad faced from the previous authorities. However, the activities that can be found during that period were carried out by Al-Jalelien who ruled this city from 1726 to 1834 A.C. They built new free schools a matter which contributed in educating people ; some of them started the renaissance in the middle the 19 th century where modern schools were established . Another reason behind this progress is the Christian Missions which contributed in establishing new schools despite of their implied purposes . Furthermore they established printing houses a matter which pushed the renaissance forward in Mosul . Schools at the first decades of the 20 th century played a vital role in awakening the spirit of liberation in the young people to resist the Ottomans and the British occupation during the first world war .
