Abstract

. . The one who seeks the meaning of " Tasamuh ", "Toleration", and its origins and roots in the Islamic culture finds an answer in the Quranic Texts and in the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). Although the term "Tasamuh" has not been mentioned in the Glorious Quran, yet the Islamic Law has tackled what serves its meanings. There were calls for piety, deliberation, cooperation, mercy, and humans knowing each other. All of these are regarded as characteristics of toleration that confirm the right for difference among humans, and that that right does not eliminate coalition.May be the uniqueness of Islam and its originality are based on the essential thought which suggests that religion is not a missionary call, yet a social and political movement. Realizing and understanding the Quranic texts within the frame and spirit of their times the Muslims succeeded in building a great widespread and effective civilization. Their state and civilization have portrayed the most beautiful images of coexistence and toleration among Muslims themselves and between them and the peoples of Asia and Europe.
