The Wilayat of Mosul in the Ottoman era through some Salanamas for the years (1308, 1310, 1312, 1325, 1330 A.H.)
Abstract
This research deals with the Ottoman wilayat of Mosul through some (Salanamas) for the years (1308, 1310, 1312, 1325, 1330 A.H.). The word "Salanama" means the annual book. The word is made of two syllabiSal which means a year or a period or date and Nama which means book or letter, and each of the two syllables is of Persian origin, but the whole word has Ottoman:zed and thus took the meaning of a yearbook an calendar. Although its meaning widely-used is a book with statistical, scientific and educational, properties or calendar-related ones.
In this research, we studied Salamanas Mosul, because they an provide important information on the administrative aspects of the wilayat, and historical, geographical, economic, social, cultural, descriptive, and statistical information of great value, because they contain accurate details of its geography history, and eventhey give information on religious shrines in Mosul, They also mentioned names of governors,and the duration of their term, in addition governments employees, official administrative organizations, and the characteristics of the population and their distribution as Muslims, Christians and Jews, with detailed numbers for each sect of them.
