The study reported here was undertaken to test particular hypotheses pertaining to the theoretically predictable difficulties encountered by the average Englishman reading the DTOWH. On the basis of the foregoing discussion the following observations have been made: Since language is an essential part of culture, from which it derives much of its meaning, it is imperative for the translator to be well-acquainted with the culturally important features of both the SL and TL texts, especially those terms or expressions which are peculiar to a particular culture. Any misinterpretation of the culture- specific terms and their subtle semantic implication will lead to an inadequate or ambiguous rendition
