Referencing Style (APA 6th Edition)

  1. The APA (6th Edition) referencing style must be adopted for all in-text citations and the reference list at the end of the research paper, following these general guidelines:

    • When citing, the source must be mentioned immediately after the quoted sentence or paragraph. The source must also be included in the reference list at the end of the paper.

    • Quotations are texts taken verbatim or rephrased from other sources and placed within the research paper or academic document. They must be cited on the same page they appear, in addition to being listed in the reference list.

    • When citing, only the author's last name and publication year should be mentioned, as shown in the example below:

      • (AL-Dabbagh, 2025)

      • (الدباغ، 2025)

    • When using a direct quotation within quotation marks, the page number must be mentioned after the date.

  • The reference list in the APA referencing system must meet the following conditions:

    • It should be on a separate page at the end of the document.

    • The text must be centered.

    • References should be arranged alphabetically by author's name (or by source title if the author's name is unavailable). In this case, definite articles: "a," "an," and "the" in English, and "الـ" (al-) in Arabic should be disregarded.

    • If there is more than one work by the same author, they should be arranged by publication date. If works were published in the same year, they should be arranged alphabetically, with letters: a, b, c...etc. added after each (or أ, ب, ج...etc. in Arabic).

    • The list must include all references mentioned in the in-text citations with their full details.
