Abstract

The importance of Iran's position on the events that took place in Iraq in the years 1991-2003 stems from the fact that Iran and Iraq enjoy the strategic importance of the fact that the two countries have a political and military weight in an important and strategic area for the interests of the great countries which is the Arab Gulf region in addition to the two countries' enjoyment of oil resources, the vital artery of the global economy And the fact that Iran is concerned in one way or another with what is happening on its western borders in Iraq with which Iran is linked with relations ranging from negative to positive now that they are mostly inclined to negativity and that there were periods of relative calm that dictated the interest of this or that country and that is In concluding treaties and agreements that tried to resolve the outstanding problems between the two parties, especially the issue of borders, but these agreements were often not violated by one of the parties when the circumstances that led to their conclusion disappeared.However, this does not prevent that there is an intersection between the interests of the two countries that affects in one way or another the decision-making process, especially towards an important issue. It exposes one of the two neighbors to a war that threatens the security and safety of the other country. Among these points is mutual hostility between the two countries and the United States of America that tries to contain and limit their role and prevent the emergence of One is in a way that threatens its interests in the Gulf region, the two countries' hostility to Israel and their rejection of the settlement processes and their support for the Palestinian uprising. The two countries sought to possess weapons of mass destruction, in addition to the fact that both countries have different nationalities and sects in their flanks, and that any internal turmoil leads to the emergence of armed nationalist movements in one of the two countries and the possibility of their enemy spreading to other countries.
