Abstract
. . . (640-656/1242-1258) ( ) (656/1258) After the Abbasid caliphate was liberated from the Saljuq dominion it began to revive the military institution. The formation of military force demands recruitment which was the responsibility of an administrative and military office called Ardh Divan and the person in charged is called AL-'aridh.The army's salary payment was done in two ways, either a military Iqta' (property) instead of the salary or in cash. The cash payment was connected with financial situation of the Abbasid state in the period under study. Salaries and Iqta' were not inherited. They were connected with the military service. When the military service ends, because of death, they lose the right of receiving salaries and Iqtas. The sons of the recruited have no right to receive their father's salaries or Iqta'.The research dealt with the issue of the Abbasid army demobilization in the time of the caliph AL-Musta'sim Billah (640-656 A.H.). The army's release was done in two steps. However, it does not include all the army. The caliphate sufficed with a limited military force receiving their financial payments from the taxes imposed on the market people which is a proof of the state Budget bankrupt before the downfall of Baghdad . (656 A.H./ A.D. 1258).
