Greetings : Meaning and Rules in Islamic Legislation

( ) : .The present research sheds light on greeting in Islam. The researcher depended on the original legislative analysis in dealing with the Quranic and Sunna texts. The research is divided into five sections. Section One deals with the linguistic definition of greeting. Section Two is devoted to the meaning of greeting in Quran and Sunna. Section Three discusses the relationship between greeting and mercy. Section Four shows the roles of responding to saying peace be on you. Section Five shows the cases in which it is hated to say peace be on you. The most important results arrived at are that peace is a slogan for the Islamic religion, which forbids war and blood shedding. It is obligatory to say peace be on you when we meet other Muslims and it is associated with mercy.
