Abstract

The study involved the investigation of protein and carbohydratesubstances in adult tapeworm Khawia luteiu using histochemicaltechniques (Ninhydrin- Sheff,Millons reagent and Toluidine-blue).Protein and carbohydrates were found in abundance inreproductive organs ,mesenchyma tissue, vitelline glands and eggs, usingNinhydrin- Sheff and Toluidine blue stains. Also, the muscular system, mainly the longitudinal muscles, showed strong positive reaction withNinhydrin- Sheff stain and negative reaction with Toluidine blue andMillons reagent. Positive and weakly positive reactions in differenttissues and organs were noticed with Millons reagent. The study also showed that the histochemical reactions in theworm varied in strength because the metabolic and physiologicalactivities, such as protection, energy storing, sensitive pulses reception toactivate reproductive processes and host immune response resistance.
